Phone Number Required for Shipping

JULY 8, 2025

We’ve heard from many creators—especially those shipping internationally—that having backer phone numbers is essential for successful delivery. In fact, some carriers require it.

To help, we’ve updated the Pledge Manager so that backers must now provide a phone number when entering a new shipping address. This applies to all backers, regardless of location, and brings us in line with standard ecommerce shipping practices.

Support for Multiple VAT IDs

JULY 2, 2025

We’ve expanded VAT support in the Kickstarter Pledge Manager. EU-based creators can now add multiple VAT numbers for different member states, making it easier to comply with regional tax obligations, especially if you store inventory or have operations in more than one EU country.

This update helps more creators confidently collect EU tax through Kickstarter and offers a smoother post-campaign experience for backers.

Enhanced Item Categorization for Streamlined Creator Setup

JULY 2, 2025

We've significantly improved our item categorization system to make pledge manager setup faster and more accurate for creators. The new flow helps reduce common setup mistakes by simplifying item classification and guiding creators through key fields.

Creators can now launch their pledge managers faster with confidence that their tax settings are configured correctly from the start.

Canada Tax Collection

JUNE 18, 2025

Creators using Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager can now collect sales tax from backers in Canada. Kickstarter now collects sales tax from Canadian backers, covering both federal (GST/HST) and provincial (PST/QST) requirements where applicable.

This update makes it easier for more creators to ship rewards to Canada while staying compliant with local tax laws.

Pledge Managers Can Now Launch Before Pledge Over Time Payments Complete

JUNE 16, 2025

Creators no longer need to delay their Pledge Manager launch while waiting for Pledge Over Time payments to complete. You can now launch your Pledge Manager as soon as it’s approved, even if some backers are still making payments.

Here’s how it works:

  • Backers who have paid in full (including those not using Pledge Over Time) will be able to access the pledge manager right away.
  • Backers still making installment payments through Pledge Over Time will be temporarily blocked from entering the pledge manager until their payments are complete.
  • These backers will see a message explaining the hold, along with a link to view their payment schedule.

Improved Pledge Manager Discoverability

JUNE 10, 2025

We’ve made it easier for new supporters to find and join your project after your campaign ends through the Pledge Manager.

We received some feedback from creators that new backers were having trouble understanding how to enter the pledge manager, and that they were seeing conflicting messaging that the project was over. To provide a clear path, we’ve made a couple key updates:

1. The "Sorry you missed out on this project" banner (screenshot below) no longer displays on projects when the pledge manager is live and accepting new backers.

2. When a creator launches their pledge manager and is accepting new backers, we now auto-populate the Spotlight button on their campaign page with a link to the pledge manager (as long as they are not already using the Spotlight button feature). Creators can update or change it at any time.
These improvements help ensure potential backers get a clear, consistent path to support your project, keeping the momentum going even after your campaign wraps.
