VAT Flexibility in Pledge Manager
Creators now have more control over how VAT is handled in the Pledge Manager.
With this update, you can choose whether Kickstarter collects and remits VAT on your behalf, or manage VAT collection outside of Kickstarter using your own systems and workflows. This makes it easier to align the Pledge Manager with your existing tax setup and operational needs.
Why this matters
VAT handling has been a common challenge for creators, especially for those who:
- Already include VAT in their pricing
- Work with fulfillment partners who manage taxes
- Use shipping models where backers pay duties on delivery
- Fall below VAT registration thresholds
What’s new
- Choose who collects VAT: Decide whether Kickstarter collects VAT on your behalf, or manage VAT collection yourself using your own systems
- Simplified setup: VAT-related requirements (like tax IDs) are removed if you opt to handle VAT independently
- Broader access to Pledge Manager: Projects with VAT-inclusive pricing are no longer restricted from using the Pledge Manager
What stays the same
Kickstarter will continue to collect and remit applicable taxes for the U.S. and Canada where required.
This update gives you more flexibility to align Kickstarter with how you already run your business, so you can use the Pledge Manager with confidence.Relevant posts
